Teaching content analysis Teaching content:English Unit10 Environment Reading:Under the Blue Sky Teaching aims: 1. About knowledge To be able to understand the structure of the reading. To be able to find detailed information of the reading. To master words and phrases related to the reading: air pollution, traffic jams, no longer, used to, main, cause, serious, quality, die of, according to, be aware of 2. About skills To be able to find main idea according to title and pictures given with logical reasoning. To be able to use skimming and scanning to comprehend the reading. To be able to retell the passage using their own words To be able to talk with others about environmental problems. 3. About affection To be aware of the importance of environment protection. To be able to find ways of living a green life and contributing to environment protection. To be able to cooperate with others in group activities actively and help each other complete the learning tasks. Teaching difficult and important points: Use skimming and scanning to find the structure and details of the reading. Use mindmap and retell the passage. To understand three Rs and find ways to practice them. Accumulate some words and phrases and use them in a proper way. Teaching methods Heuristic method, Task-language teaching, Cooperative learning Teaching aids Multimedia, PPT, A bottle of fresh air II. Teaching procedures Step1. Organization Greet with each other. Step2. Lead-in Show students an “empty” bottle to arouse their interest. Present a few pictures and ask them questions. “What can you see here? / What kind of pollution is it?” land pollution , air pollution , water pollution, noise pollution Step3. Presentation 1. Predicting: Ask students to pay attention to the title and pictures at first and guess the main idea of the reading: air pollution 2. Skimming: read for structure (2minutes) Read quickly and play a matching game. 3. Scanning: read for details and vocabularies (10 minutes ) Read aloud. Work within groups and find details using the questions. “ What causes air pollution? ” “ How does it effect environment and us? ” “What should we do to fight against pollution and protect environment?” Pay attention to the unfamiliar words and phrases: air pollution, traffic jams, no longer, used to, main, cause, serious, quality, die of, according to, be aware of 4. Retelling Use mindmap on the board to retell the passage. Show students an example. Two minutes for them to practice with neighbors. 5. Introduce a green lifestyle and brainstorm ways to practice three Rs Reduce (to buy less and use less) Reuse (to use things again) Recycle (to make something into new products) 6. Summary Show students a clip of video about a song “Earth Song”. Encourage students to do more things to benefit the environment. III. Homework Finish task 2 and 3 on the worksheet.
